Suspect No. 1: Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Chechen immigrant

The older (and now dead) brother is said to be 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, an immigrant from Chechnya.

Tamerlan's younger brother is said to have run him over while getting away from the cops.

The latest word is that Tsarnaev family has been in America for about ten years. We are a nation of immigrants.

Here's Tameran's Youtube page.

From the Wikipedia article on Timur (or Tamburlaine, as Christopher Marlowe's play of 1588 spelled the name):
Timur envisioned the restoration of the Mongol Empire of Genghis Khan.[13] Unlike his predecessors Timur was also a devout Muslim who referred to himself as the Sword of Islam, converting nearly all the Borjigin leaders to Islam during his lifetime.[14] His armies were inclusively multi-ethnic. ... Timur's armies were feared throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe,[16] sizable parts of which were laid to ruin by his campaigns. Scholars estimate that his military campaigns caused the deaths of 17 million people, amounting to about 5% of the world population.

Here's a reader's comment on the original Tamerlan.

First, I'm amazed the other brother was able to get out of there after that gunfight.
Second, do the Boston Police have ANY standards regarding physical ability? I saw one short obese policeman running around with a shotgun. I was honestly afraid he might accidentally shoot himself. He looked way over his head for what was going on.

This act of violence goes against everything Genghis Khan stood for.

Wiki: Genghis Khan
The Mongol Empire practiced religious tolerance because Mongol tradition had long held that religion was a personal concept, and not subject to law or interference. ...

I wonder if Shia Laboeuf will receive an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of white nationalist terrorist Tommy Turner.

Anon 5:14, here's what we've got on the scene:

Watertown PD
Cambridge PD
Boston PD
Brookline PD
Newton PD
Waltham PD
Whatever various PD members they happen to call in from surrounding towns.
Mass. State Police
FBI
ATF
DHS
etc.

This sort of alphabet soup of law enforcement always leads to a clusterf&ck.

Well, he didn't rape anyone. Ghengis wouldn't have passed up on some rape.

As to Mongolian religious tolerance: They didn't care what any of their animals, man or horse believed.

Does anyone else find the chameleon video as revealing [and creepy] as I do?

I'm kind of skeptical as to whether either of these guys is explicitly "named after" anyone - although I could be wrong; maybe I'm just too influenced by the modern Western mindset in which people usually care more about the sound of a name than its origins. I mean, there are French guys named Jules with a name that derives to the guy who conquered their forefathers, not a guy who conquered on their behalf, and no one seems to find this odd.
